Ever hit a great shot and wondered how? Or You cant teach impact.

Credit: M. Petty

This one observation from Hackmotion (yep I read it and watched their vids) which measured hundreds of professionals I'm not quite sure why coaches on Youtube or the fancy fun videos on IG with the rhymes havent picked up on this critical piece of the setup.

*Warning: if you open up 50 yards left of your target and dont exactly have Lee Buck's instincts (or time to hit millions of balls to develop the feel) you end up with a low left or a vicious hook if you dont know how to setup properly so that your shallowing(Figure 8) saves your ProV from going straight into the creek on the left. This matchup helps all of this in an easy way to test.

One of the most obnoxious sayings I've heard on numerous driving ranges and videos has been : You cant teach impact. Well thats before tech caught up.

Where I went wrong early in my journey was I wasnt matched up. I had a wrist condition that I tried to make hand and wrist driven. Not the best way to do it. I ended up learning how to use you body to match it.

Summary:

Matchups: Wrist option Tendencies (Once you know what you tend to do thats how you can repeat your setup).

Wrist Option A: Hands and wrists, turn down style

Neutral wrist = more supination

Upper arm internal, means pivot slows and your arm rotates around to square up.

Rory, Homa, Jack.

Max lets it square up with the lead elbow.

Jack fit into this pattern too. square it up with the elbow position.

Wrist Option B: Bowed wrist = More flexion less supination

Pivot ramps up and opens body and keeps upper arm more internally rotated and square up by wrist release with a forward press. DJ/Rahm/Trevino

So what kind of release do you have does it match your wrist condition at the top....thats the beginning of learning to repeat your impact.

The fastest way to understand what kind of action you might need is to find out what wrist conditions you create while in motion and reverse engineer it to match up.
