AND THEN TIGER TOLD CHARLIE...

Happy Holidays everyone! The photo above is from 2020. But every year it seems that somehow Lee Trevino(I prefer to call him Mr. Trevino) finds himself hitting balls on the range and Tiger always seems to be there. Since the age of 8 they have known each other(Mr. Trevino was involved in many different clinics throughout the country which TW attended).

From all indications somehow Earl Woods(Tiger's father) would have been the exact right age to be aware of the greatness of Mr. Trevino. This probably is instrumental in the understanding and making it more realistic in Tiger's mind to be able to visualize different shapes to the golf ball. Which is why to me, its super important for juniors to go see a PGA Tour event.

Something that Hal Sutton(Be the Right Club Today Podcast and YouTube) offered some interesting insight from his generation that actually stuck with me. Hal made it a point to contrast today's players who only sought out advice from their coaches and never just walked the range for a few minutes and just watched and/or asked established legends of the game questions. Guess what? Collin Morikawa and Jon Rahm are two that break this and actually do this(as of this entry OWGR #2 and #1's).

Probably two quick takeaways from the audio. 1.) 50 yard shot played with hands way forward from the start prevents the hands from outracing the clubhead! And the ball wont squirt right.What a nugget! 2.) Trevino and Woods fade it with similar concepts. Woods feels his hands move away from his body and brings them inward to cut it. Trevino's stance already hands his hands move away and steepen due to his body being in the way and bring them inward to cut it.

The bonus takeaway: Tiger told Charlie(Tiger's son), this is why we draw wedge shots...this guy right here(points to Lee).

So next time you find another moment between these two remember even the Big Cat had to stand on the shoulders of giants even if he's only five foot seven!
